Job Description

Performs duties associated with the security and safety of associates, residents, visitors, vendors and all others who have business on an Ascension Living property. 

Job Requirements

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of associates, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.

  • Monitors security cameras, fire systems, secure doors, property perimeter and gate(s).

  • Performs mobile and foot patrols both internally and externally.

  • Identify visitors and/or suspicious people and ask for appropriate identification, if necessary.

  • Responds to and directs EMS or Fire Department personnel to appropriate doors, rooms or apartments ensuring resident safety when necessary.

  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons or theft.

  • Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.

  • Ensures exterior cameras and lights are maintained and functioning correctly.

  • Responds to mechanical needs and safety hazards of the property, including emergency water shut off valve operation, ability to distinguish when maintenance should be called after business hours, and lock out/tag out protocols.

  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.

  • Enforce the appropriate parking policy and assist with traffic control as needed (vehicle and pedestrian).

  • Circulate among visitors, family members, and associates to preserve order and protect property.

  • Provide courtesy escorts around campus and vehicle assistance as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Experience


  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Associate or Bachelors Degree preferred

  • Minimum of one year security experience preferred


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations


  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Basic Private Security Permit, if applicable to the community.

  • Demonstrate the ability to meet requirements for a firearms permit, if applicable to the community.

  • Able to pass an annual firearms proficiency test (armed staff only).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross, or other trained instructor, received within 6 months from date of hire. May be preferred for some communities.

  • Must demonstrate on an ongoing basis the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and ministry leadership.

  • Competencies needed for this position include strong interpersonal relationship skills, detail oriented, work in collaboration with others, demonstrate a high degree of integrity and personal commitment, possess strong analytical skills, be able to work independently and manage multiple deliverables at the same time.

  • Ability to function in a matrix environment and demonstrate a passion to succeed be selfmotivated, dependable, committed, and a willingness to see a project through to its conclusion.

  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.

  • Ability to access all areas of the ministry throughout the work day.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently and 7 pounds constantly.

  • Required to obtain assistance of another qualified employee when attempting to lift or transfer objects over 25 pounds.

  • Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds above the head. 

  • Requires constant hand grasp and finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, pushing and repetitive leg and arm movements, occasional bending, reaching forward and overhead, crouching and kneeling.  Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position.

  • Tolerate standing and walking for up to 8 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces.

  • Frequently able to communicate verbally and in written form.

  • Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as voices and phone calls.

  • Frequently able to use all types of vision, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, to complete daily tasks.

  • Constantly required to detect unusual odors that could indicate environmental issues
