Job Description


Provides directcare to adult and geriatric resident/participants. Assists in the management, coordination andmaintenance of an efficient, productive, andorganized clinical staff within his/her assigned area. In absence ofnursing leadership, shall have administrativeauthority over and responsibility for the functions and activities of the clinical department. Demonstratesknowledge of and delivers care in accordancewith the Nurse Practice Act in the State in which employed. Functions asa member of the interdisciplinary team.


•        Works cooperatively and efficiently withdepartmental community leadership.

•        Assists in implementing clinical services and programs.

•        Effectively communicates expected outcomes,efficient work routines, and workprocedures to the clinical staff.

•        Assists with implementation and evaluation ofquality of care including on-goingauditing of Quality Indicators.

•        Assures adherence to clinical policies andprocedures within departmentalguidelines.

•        Assists with admissions, discharges, andtransfers to assure appropriate care andcompliance with State and/or Federal regulations.

•        Assumes administrative authority for clinicaldepartments in the absence of thenursing leadership.

•        Assist in maintaining clinical budgets.

•        Assumes a community presence that monitorsresident care.

•        Oversees completion of clinical documentationper community policy, and State andFederal regulations

•        Follows regulatory and community standards,policies, procedures and precautionsin the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment.

•        Assumes responsibility for enhancingprofessional knowledge and skills throughparticipation in educational programs and seminars.

•        Other duties as assigned.

  • Interprets existing policies and procedures to licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, certified medication aides, residents, and families.

  • Supervises staff, evaluates the provision of direct resident care, and initiates corrective action as necessary.

  • Follows staffing guidelines and make nursing assignments according to qualifications of staff and characteristics of the resident population.

  • Participates in the associate evaluation process by providing information on the clinical performance of licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants and certified medications aides to the DCS.

  • Monitors staff compliance with infection control, personal protection equipment, blood borne pathogens, hazardous material handling and fire safety.

Job Requirements


•        Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.

•        BSN from an accredited college or university preferred.

•        Three years nursing management experience insenior care preferred.

•        Experience with current and emerging deliverysystems with capability ofimplementing changes as needed.


•        Long Term Care – Valid license as a registerednurse in the state in which employedrequired.

•        Assisted Living - Valid license as a practicalor vocational nurse (LPN or LVN) in thestate which employed required. RN Preferred.

•        CPR Certification required for LTC upon hire,or obtain within thirty (30) days ofemployment.

•        CPR Certification preferred for Assisted Living.


•        Must possess strong collaborative,interpersonal, organizational, multi-tasking,verbal and written communication skills, and a desire to create a high-performance, effective team thatcan produce consistent, demonstrated results.

•        Must demonstrate on an ongoing basis theability to develop and maintain goodworking relationships with co-workers and community leadership.

•        The incumbent must demonstrate the ability tocommunicate clearly and conciselyon oral and written form.

•        Competencies needed for this position includestrong interpersonal relationship skills, detail oriented, work incollaboration with others, demonstrate a high degree of integrity and personal commitment, possess strong analyticalskills, be able to work independentlyand manage multiple deliverables at the sametime.

•        Ability to function in a matrix environment anddemonstrate a passion to succeed beself- motivated, dependable, committed, and a willingness to see a project through to its conclusion.

•        Working knowledge and proficiency withMicrosoft Office is required.

•        Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations.

•        Frequently required to carry or lift itemsweighing up to 25 pounds at waist height.Required to obtain assistance of another qualified associate when attempting to lift objects over 25 pounds.

•        Frequently required to assist in maneuveringresident/patients weighing 100-400pounds and occasionally required to assist in maneuvering resident/patients weighing over 400 pounds.

•        Tolerate standing and walking for up to 8 hoursat a time on hard and soft surfaces.

•        Frequently perform activities that requirestooping, bending and reaching, squatting,balancing, and trunk twisting throughout theday.

•        Constantly able to effectively communicate.

•        Occasionally required to sit in a stationaryposition for up to 30 minutes at one time.

•        Frequently able to detect and discern both loudand soft sounds such as residentcalls, verbal orders, monitors, and phone calls.

•        Frequently able to use hands and fingers toperform simple and fine motor handlingtasks, such as taking vital signs, writing, and using a keyboard.

•        Frequently able to use different types ofvisual perceptions to perform activities suchas moving medical equipment, evaluating resident/patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens.

•        Occasionally required to detect unusual odorsthat could indicate infection or otherproblems with a resident, or environmental issues such as smoke.

•        This position may provide direct care to adultand geriatric resident/participants.


Position isCategory I of Potential Exposure. Use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is requiredfor every associate engaging in Category Itasks.

Frequently exposedto blood, body fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, and sharp objects potentially contaminated with blood bornepathogens or other infectious agents.

•        The noise level in the work environment isusually moderate.

•        Work is generally performed in an indoor,well-lighted, well-ventilated, heated andair- conditioned environment.

•        Subject to frequent interruptions by staff,residents, visitors, and volunteers.

•        Subject occasionally to hostile and emotionallyupset residents, family members,staff, and visitors.
