Job Description

Provides direct care to adult and geriatric resident/participants.  Assists in the management, coordination and maintenance of an efficient, productive, and organized clinical staff within his/her assigned area.  In absence of nursing leadership, shall have administrative authority over and responsibility for the functions and activities of the clinical department.  Demonstrates knowledge of and delivers care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the State in which employed. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. 
  •  Works cooperatively and efficiently with departmental community leadership.
  • Assists in implementing clinical services and programs. 
  • Effectively communicates expected outcomes, efficient work routines, and work procedures to the clinical staff. 
  • Assists with implementation and evaluation of quality of care including on-going auditing of Quality Indicators. 
  • Assures adherence to clinical policies and procedures within departmental guidelines.
  •   Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers to assure appropriate care and compliance with State and/or Federal regulations. 
  • Assumes administrative authority for clinical departments in the absence of the nursing leadership. 
  • Assist in maintaining clinical budgets. 
  • Assumes a community presence that monitors resident care. 
  • Oversees completion of  clinical documentation per community policy, and State and Federal regulations 
  • Follows regulatory and community standards, policies, procedures and precautions in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment. 
  • Assumes responsibility for enhancing professional knowledge and skills through participation in educational programs and seminars. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

  •  Interprets existing policies and procedures to licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, certified medication aides, residents, and families. 
  • Supervises staff, evaluates the provision of direct resident care, and initiates corrective action as necessary. 
  • Follows staffing guidelines and make nursing assignments according to qualifications of staff and characteristics of the resident population.
  • Participates in the associate evaluation process by providing information on the clinical performance of licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants and certified medications aides to the DCS. 
  • Monitors staff compliance with infection control, personal protection equipment, blood borne pathogens, hazardous material handling and fire safety. 

Job Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. 
  • BSN from an accredited college or university preferred. 
  • Three years nursing management experience in senior care preferred.  
  • Experience with current and emerging delivery systems with capability of implementing changes as needed. 
  • Long Term Care – Valid license as a registered nurse in the state in which employ required. 
  •   Valid license as a practical or vocational nurse (LPN or LVN) in the state which employed required. RN Preferred.  
  • CPR Certification required for LTC upon hire, or obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.  
  • CPR Certification preferred for Assisted Living. 
  •   Must possess strong collaborative, interpersonal, organizational, multi-tasking, verbal and written communication skills, and a desire to create a high-performance, effective team that can produce consistent, demonstrated results.   
  • Must demonstrate on an ongoing basis the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and community leadership. 
  • The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and concisely on oral and written form. 
  • Competencies needed for this position include strong interpersonal relationship skills, detail oriented, work in collaboration with others, demonstrate a high degree of integrity and personal commitment, possess strong analytical skills, be able to work independently and manage multiple deliverables at the same time. 
  • Ability to function in a matrix environment and demonstrate a passion to succeed be self- motivated, dependable, committed, and a willingness to see a project through to its conclusion. 
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. 
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations.

  Frequently required to push and pull items, such as resident/patient beds, requiring a force of up to 75 pounds.  Frequently required to carry or lift items weighing up to 25 pounds at waist height. Required to obtain assistance of another qualified associate when attempting to lift objects over 25 pounds.  Frequently required to assist in maneuvering resident/patients weighing 100-400 pounds and occasionally required to assist in maneuvering resident/patients weighing over 400 pounds.  Tolerate standing and walking for up to 8 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces.  Frequently perform activities that require stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day.  Constantly able to effectively communicate.  Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position for up to 30 minutes at one time.  Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as resident calls, verbal orders, monitors, and phone calls.  Frequently able to use hands and fingers to perform simple and fine motor handling tasks, such as taking vital signs, writing, and using a keyboard.  Frequently able to use different types of visual perceptions to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating resident/patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens.  Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate infection or other problems with a resident, or environmental issues such as smoke.  This position may provide direct care to adult and geriatric resident/participants. 
Position is Category I of Potential Exposure. Use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required for every associate engaging in Category I tasks. Frequently exposed to blood, body fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, and sharp objects potentially contaminated with blood borne pathogens or other infectious agents.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Work is generally performed in an indoor, well-lighted, well-ventilated, heated and air- conditioned environment.  Subject to frequent interruptions by staff, residents, visitors, and volunteers.  Subject occasionally to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, staff, and visitors.
